I feel for the loss of this man, HOWEVER...he put himself in this position. The Police didn't pick him out of the clear blue sky and decide to surround his home and spend hours in a highly tense hostage situation. Please reserve judgement on the Police until all the info is out, they responded to protect YOU, and they did. Unfortunatly someone did die, but thankfully the only casualty was the person who caused the problem in the first place, not you or me or another innocent person.

How did they protect ME by shooting a man holed up in his truck, surrounded by SWAT??? The whole area was completely blocked off and no civilians were at risk. Was he going to magically evade a hundred police and then waltz into the public library and shoot it up while police watched??? Give me a break. Think logically next time.

Who is ignoring logic? Your friend is dead, thats to bad. If he wanted to live he should have complied with the officers. If they started shooting 9 hours earlier maybe you would have a point. They should be commended for thier restraint, not villified because your friend decided to endanger your life and thiers.

I have to agree with what "glb" said....." if they had started shooting 9 hours earlier, then maybe you would have a point. He had a chance to give up and seek help hours earlier. I think we should reserve judgment until we have ALL the information. I believe this is just a case of a situation going on for too long, fatigue, and patience wearing thin. Never the less, a tragic outcome. My sympathies to family and friends of this man, who apparently was loved ans respected inthe community. Hey, we ALL havabd days, this must have been his. Let's not get on the vigiante wagon too soon!!

Your right he probabally wouldn't have killed a civilian... but he could have killed any one of those police officers. He just wanted attention and now he got it

Dear "glb", I'd like to officially inform you that you're an idiot. Don't play the "logic" card. The last time I checked, police officers are supposed to be trained that this country's criminal law rests on innocent until proven guilty. So, to "logically" deduce that this man would be a danger to them and others based upon his obvious choice to #1 remove himself from the company of others #2 call the police on himself #3 remain on his own property...the list goes on. These officers did aggravate the situation, leading to the tragic climax. It's laughable that they claim it's a police policy to not allow close family/friends to diffuse the situation, when the police chief says we "generally" follow that policy. What the hell kind of policy is it if you only "generally" follow it? Do they also have a policy of "we only generally don't try to shoot people who aren't putting others in danger?" Give me a freakin' break. Granted Brian had some issues, but since when does one adrenaline-charged and impatient officer get license to be judge, jury and executioner? And people like you support that behavior? He comes from a great family and I'm sure he was a good man. We can fault him for being weak enough to fire a weapon at an undeserving garbage can, but we most definitely cannot condone the bone-headed decisions of law enforcement that night.

This is the first time I have commented on a blog, so please bear with me.
I live in Farmington, down the road. I did not know Brian, but I have seen him around Farmington.
A year ago I lost some one very close to me by suicide. The FPD responded and treated me with warmth and kindness. They still ask how I am doing.
I heard the percussion grenades go off and then I heard that one single gun shot.....I walked into my home and cryed for Brian, his son, Mother and Family. I am so sorry for thier loss and for the pain that they will be going through. I pray that they will be comforted and that some of their pain will be lifted from them. I also feel for Brian's close friends. I have read many of their comments. I am truly sorry.

BEN, everybody has their right to their own opinion. That is why people contribute to these kind of blogs. They have an opinion and they want to share it. Being rude and calling someone an idiot is totally distasteful. You have your opinion right, whether we agree with it or not as least GLB has not resorted to name calling. He/she obviously respects your opinion enough to not repsond back with name calling. Of course this was a sad outcome. I live a block away from Brian's home, from where this all took place. The precusion grenades woke up my little girl and scared her to death. We felt them and heard the final gunshot. No one here says it wasn't sad. We do not have all the evidence and so how can we truly judge or comment on the situation. There are those who say "they know someone CLOSE to the case and they know information that we all do not" Irrelavent in my opinion. There will be an investigation and we will all know what happened that night. What I believe personally, is that a man shot his gun off with in a block of my home. NOT COOL! My children ride their bikes around the same block, right by his home! What if the police said " Oh it's just Brian Wood, he'll cool off in a little bit, let's just leave him alone for a while!" He was obviously angry at something. What would have happened had his anger built and built and he went off such as the man did at Trolley Square. Anger is a scary emotion that can make people do things they normally wouldn't do! As a person living that close to his home, I really would expect the police to contain him! What truly happened will come out, but what happened in our community leaves me to believe that our Police Department and Fire Department are looking out for the rest of us who have not chosen to shoot a gun randomly and threaten to possibly kill myself. GOOD JOB FARMINGTON POLICE DEPARTMENT, FIRE DEPARTMENT and EMT'S!!!!!!
